The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of southwest North Carolina, East Tennessee and southwest Virginia, warning of strong winds and scattered storms today.

Strong winds are expected in the Tennessee mountains and adjacent foothills through early afternoon Friday. A Wind Advisory remains in effect for those areas, with additional details available from the National Weather Service.

A line of showers with a few embedded thunderstorms is forecast to move quickly through the region early this morning. While severe weather is not expected, some strong wind gusts between 30 and 40 mph are possible at times as the line passes.

Looking ahead, a northwest flow pattern is expected to bring light snowfall accumulations to southwest Virginia and the East Tennessee mountains Sunday and Sunday night.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts and use caution when traveling in higher elevations, where winds and light snowfall could create hazardous conditions.
