Woman fighting for life after knife lodged in her chest at Newcastle cafe

The 27-year-old was rushed to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition after the blade was left lodged in her chest yesterday.

She underwent surgery to remove the knife and remains in a serious but stable condition.

Adrian Stratton works with the woman at Onyx Expresso cafe and has been charged with attempted murder.

The 23-year-old was refused bail when he appeared in court wearing a forensic suit today.

He is yet to undergo psychiatric assessment.

Mr Stratton is next expected to appear in court on July 8.

Onyx Expresso closed for the foreseeable future while police investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman’s injuries.
