Woman hit by boy, 10, on e-bike in horror collision – three operations needed

CCTV footage has captured the shocking moment a woman was struck by a 10 year old riding an e-bike in a collision that left her requiring three separate operations.

She suffered a broken femur, a fractured collar bone and two spinal fractures, spending a total of 36 days in hospital across three operations.

The harrowing footage, released by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), clearly shows the moment Ms Ouartsi was knocked to the ground.

Ms Ouartsi can be seen walking alongside her partner Dave Mathias when the bike slams into her. She staggers backwards before crashing onto the pavement, while the young rider also tumbles from the bike.

The rider initially remained at the scene but was subsequently led away by his mother, according to Mr Mathias, who spoke to The Times.

Police launched an investigation, though no charges were ultimately brought. Ms Ouartsi recalled the terrifying ordeal, explaining that the couple had enjoyed a “lovely lunch” and visited an exhibition shortly beforehand, before the high-speed bike struck her without warning.

“I heard my spine and my body split and I thought I’ve gone – I just didn’t know what was happening,” she told the BBC.

“An ambulance arrived and I was urgently treated by paramedics who couldn’t understand my injuries.

“They had to operate and put me back together again and help me to walk.”

In the aftermath of the incident, Ms Ouartsi was left with no choice but to wear a back brace, as medical professionals feared her spine would otherwise collapse.

In the UK, where there are currently between 1 million and 1.5 million electric bikes in use, doctors are reporting a sharp rise in e-bike related injuries, according to an Australian news site.

Ms Ouartsi’s partner revealed that the couple feel “helpless and angry” having failed to receive either compensation or criminal justice.
