Worker dies after pallet fell on him in parking lot: Police

A 20-year-old man who worked in manufacturing at a high-rise car park in Ghatkopar (east) has died after the parking deck fell on him on Monday.

The late Gufran Khan, a Govandi resident and son of an autorickshaw driver, worked as a helper. He was rushed to the local Rajawadi hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The local police at Pant Nagar in Ghatkopar were informed about the incident, after which an FIR was registered against the site supervisor and Gurfan’s employer for failing to provide the necessary safety equipment.

Ravidatt Sawant, Chief Inspector at Pant Nagar Police Station, said: “Khan was working in building number 141 in the Vaibhav park area when a pallet board on top of him fell on him.” He was pronounced dead at the Rajawadi hospital, which later alerted the Pant Nagar police.

A FIR TREE was registered under sections 304(A) (causing death by negligence) and 34 (common intent) of the IPC. Both sections are salvageable. So far, no arrests have been made.

An official said Gufran worked with Pari Fabricators in Shivaji Nagar, owned by Imran Khan. The company was assigned the manufacturing job at the Ghatkopar parking lot by AJ Elevators, whose supervisor Amol Kamble was also the supervisor at the Ghatkopar location where Gufran and three others worked. Based on the complaint from Gufran’s father, the police registered the FIR against Imran Khan and Amol Kamble.
