WASHINGTON (TND) — Israeli attacks in Gaza have not let up, including an air strike at a school being used as a shelter, killing 30 in addition to five during an attack near a hospital.
Israel Defense Forces have insisted their targets are leaders of the terror group Hamas who take shelter near civilians, very often women and children.
This has been daily life in Gaza since October 7, when Hamas carried out a massacre killing more than 1,200 people and taking more than 200 hostages.
A recent attack on a soccer field in the Israel controlled Golan Heights resulted in the death of 12 children and teens within days Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukur and Hamas political leader Ismael Haniyeh were both killed.
These were very provocative acts and I think with any state or any even non-state actor, there would need to be an kind of response to re-establish reputation, defensive posture, Israel would do the same,” said Natasha Hall, a senior fellow with the Middle East Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
That threat has drawn in U.S. military sending fighter jets.
The USS Abraham Lincoln Strike Group was sent to the region to replace the USS Theodore Roosevelt strike group. The U.S. hopes it helps Israel, but also protect the 45,000-plus American troops stationed in countries like Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar.
Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, is one of several leaders to warn Israel and the world of coming retaliation.
“The enemy, and those behind our enemy, should wait for our definite response,” he said
The U.S. played an assisting role less than four months ago in April when Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel nearly all of which were intercepted, the world is now on edge to see the impact of its next response.
