Australia all-rounder Cameron Green is hoping to bring the calm of Rohit Sharma to his game, having spent some enjoyable time with the India captain at the Mumbai Indians, dug out of the IPL this year.
Green, with 452 runs and six wickets, played a key role in MI’s campaign this season under Rohit’s captaincy, despite the five-time champions ultimately being knocked out in Qualifier 2.
“The calm he (Rohit) has in the middle is very evident,” Green told ICC ahead of the World Test Championship final against India at The Oval, starting on June 7.
“Obviously he’s been there and done that for 10 years. To be there with him and just talk about a situation was amazing.”
“My role was to try to be aggressive and then obviously he showed ways to do it, whether it was attacking spin, attacking speed, picking your shooter in some way,” added the 24-year-old.
Green joined the Australia squad late and made his first appearance in the training session on Thursday.
While Mumbai’s teammates will now be WTC final foes, Green can draw on what he learned from the India captain throughout the IPL and during their crucial partnership of the century against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last game of the IPL. IPL league when they meet in the red ball showdown.
Building up for the main clash, Green believes that an in-form Virat Kohli will definitely be a big threat.
“Virat Kohli. I think he always tries to be the man who stands up in the big moments,” he said.
“A World Test Championship is obviously a great time, so I’m looking forward to that.”
Green feels that he will have no problem switching from T20 format to Test Cricket.
“There’s nothing like Test cricket when you’re in the middle,” he said.
“Obviously your nerves are very high. I think the best players are the best that can handle that.”
