Three more FIRs have been filed since Tuesday against Ashish Kanjariya, the editor of the Pol Khol TV YouTube channel, after he was arrested by the city’s crime branch last month for allegedly extorting money from the administrator of a private school in Ahmedabad. . With this, there have been four FIRs filed against Kanjariya so far.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime branch) Bharat Patel told the media on Thursday: “He made a trust called Adhar Foundation and web portals like schoolfir.com, polkholtv.in, polkholtv.com and gujratvalimandal.com. He printed several notepads and filed RTI (Right to Information) Law pleadings as news editor for Pol Khol TV… he slandered and threatened several schools”.
“We learned this in his two-day pretrial detention that he gave us previously (on April 30). During this period, three more FIRs were filed against him, one by the Bopal Police and the others by the Crime Stopping Section,” he added.
Patel further said that Kanjariya allegedly extorted Rs 35 lakh in cash and Rs 1.15 lakh through online transactions from about 30 schools in ahmedabad district.
In it FIR TREE Registered on Thursday, following a police complaint lodged by the administrator of Anand Niketan Higher and Secondary School in Ahmedabad, Kanjariya allegedly extorted Rs 2 lakhs from parents, promising their wards’ admission to the school. He also allegedly extorted Rs 6 lakh by threatening the trustee to frame him on trumped up charges if the students were not granted admission. Furthermore, he allegedly extorted Rs 2 lakh from the trustee’s brother.
The crime allegedly occurred between January 2019 and January 2023. It was recorded under sections 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication), 384 (extortion), and 389 (putting a person in fear of criminal prosecution, for committing extortion) of the C.I.P.
According to one of the FIRs filed at the DCB police station on Tuesday, Kanjariya allegedly threatened to extort Rs 6 lakh from the principal of Thaltej’s Udgam school, between January 2019 and May 2023, if he did not admit the students named by Kanjariya. . He was registered under sections 384 (extortion), 389 (putting a person in fear of criminal prosecution, to commit extortion) of the IPC.
In the third FIR filed on Tuesday, between January 2017 and December 2022, Kanjariya allegedly blackmailed the administrator of Shri Ram schools in Sterling and Sanad city for not having the necessary documents to run the schools.
Kanjariya allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 a year from the trustee in exchange for saving the school’s reputation and introduced himself as an RTI activist and Pol Khol TV editor.
He was booked under sections 341 (unlawful restraint), 384 (extortion), 389 (putting a person in fear of criminal prosecution, to commit extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), 501 (printed or recorded material known to is defamatory) and 511 (attempted to commit crimes punishable by life imprisonment or other imprisonment) under IPC.
