Best middle-order batsmen in Tests: Steve Smith is still the king as new challengers emerge – Sport360 News

0

For long it has been said that cricket is a batsman’s game. While that adage might hold true for the limited-overs formats, the same cannot be said for the Test format where the battle between bat and ball has been a more even contest.

The biggest run-scorers in the format usually bat between numbers three to five, with the openers bearing the brunt of the shiny new red ball.

The current era is lucky to have some prodigious middle-order batting talents in the form of the ‘Fab Four’. Below, we have picked our top eight middle-order batsmen in the Test format by ranking them in four separate tiers.

Performances over the last three years have been given greater consideration.

TIER 4

Henry Nicholls (New Zealand)

After a stellar 2018 campaign, the New Zealand batsman has gone off the boil in recent times. Ranked among the top 10 batsmen at one point, Henry Nicholls displays in the past 15 months or so have been less than ordinary.

A century against Bangladesh in early 2019 is the only time Nicholls has crossed triple figures in his past 14 innings for New Zealand. Poor series displays against Australia and India have halted the impressive progress made previously by the left-handed batsman.

He was on a roll in 2018 for the Kiwis and averaged more than 73 in the calendar year with the help of three tons. Although his recent performances have let him down, the 28-year-old can certainly be counted among the best if he rediscovers his former heights.

Cheteshwar Pujara (India)

Cheteshwar Pujara.

The India stalwart is now completing a decade at Test level and has been a real force while batting at No3.

Since the beginning of 2017, no other batsman has faced more deliveries than Pujara’s 5,995. A proper old-school Test batsman who exudes the virtue of patience at the crease, the right-hander has a solid technique which is tailor-made for the five-day format.

His greatest moment in the last three years came in Australia in 2018-19, with the 32-year-old registering three tons to help the visitors attain a maiden series win Down Under.

Like Nicholls, Pujara has gone quiet of late too, with his last Test century coming in Adelaide over a year ago. He wasn’t his reliable self in India’s series defeat at the hands of New Zealand earlier this year, and that display has played its part in dropping down to the fourth tier.

TIER 3

Joe Root (England)

Root (2)

While he might be a part of the Fab Four, Joe Root’s recent performances in the format do not warrant a position higher than the third tier. Only Virat Kohli has scored more Test runs than Root since the start of 2017, though the India man has averaged a superb 59.43 in comparison to the Englishman’s 42.92.

The hundreds have dried up for the England skipper ever since he took over the role from Alastair Cook in 2017, with just six of his 17 Test tons coming during his tenure as captain. His form since the turn of 2018 has been particularly poor by his high standards and a double ton in New Zealand last year remains one of the rare occasions where he has been at his brilliant best.

Root’s class with the bat has never been in question and there is definitely another gear left in a batsman who was ranked at No1 in 2015. He is still only 29 and can become England’s greatest run-scorer if he can overcome his lean run.

Babar Azam (Pakistan)

Babar (1)

Joining Root at tier three is a batsman who is poised to reach the very summit if he keeps up his current trajectory. Babar Azam has long established his credentials in the limited-overs formats, but question marks remained over his Test chops until the beginning of 2018.

However, a run of four centuries in his last five Test appearances seems to indicate that the Pakistan star is finally ready to take his place among the big boys. His display in Australia last year against a formidable pace attack was a sign of his rising maturity and he has taken it to a new level on the return of Test cricket to Pakistan soil.

Since the start of 2018, Babar is averaging more than 65 with the bat in the Test format and it is the highest managed by any batsman with a minimum of 400 runs in the same period.

TIER 2

Kane Williamson (New Zealand)

Kane Williamson reaches his century

The New Zealand skipper is the epitome of consistency and has continued to maintain the lofty standards he set in 2014. Since then, in only one calendar year has Williamson not managed to average at least 50 in the Test format. That anomaly occurred in 2016 when the Kiwi star still managed to average an excellent 47.06.

His most recent series display against India was a downer, though such performances have been a rarity for the 29-year-old in his long career. Seven centuries and an average of over 55 in his last 24 Test appearances show that the Tauranga man is at the peak of his career and could breach several milestones in the coming years.

He will, without a doubt, go down as the greatest batsman ever produced by New Zealand. His 21 tons is already the most by any Kiwi batsman in the history of the format.

Marnus Labuschagne (Australia)

Marnus Labuschage

Few would have expected Marnus Labuschagne to be ranked as high as No3 in the ICC rankings and above Williamson when he made his Test debut against Pakistan in 2018. A turn of fate and an English county stint with Glamorgan has seen the right-hander script a most incredible rise in the past year or so.

Since he came on as a concussion substitute for Steve Smith in the 2019 Ashes, no other batsman has scored more runs than Labuschagne. Having seized that opportunity, the 26-year-old has amassed 1,249 runs in this period at a sensational average of 83. 26.

He was in irresistible form in Australia’s last home summer, registering four tons including a maiden double-century against New Zealand in Sydney. Lining up alongside Smith, Australia have arguably the best Test batting unit in the world at present.

TIER 1

Virat Kohli (India)

KOHLINTON

Smith has reclaimed the No1 Test ranking from Virat Kohli in recent months, but the India superstar remains a class above most. His 3,031 runs since the start of 2017 are the highest by any batsman in the same duration and have come at a staggering average of nearly 60.

In this duration, Kohli has notched up overseas tons in South Africa, England and Australia while also helping himself to four double centuries.

His recent escapades in New Zealand have slightly dented his credentials, though the 31-year-old still remains the best among batsmen not named Steve Smith. It has taken a freakishly good Smith to consign Kohli to the No2 spot, and the India man’s achievements are often overshadowed by the Australian’s prolific runs.

Steve Smith (Australia)

Smith11

Having cooled his heels on the sidelines for an entire year due to his suspension for ball-tampering, Smith wasted no time in reclaiming his throne with what has been an epic comeback.

The 31-year-old was on fire in the Ashes, racking up 774 runs in seven innings at an average greater than 110. Pundits have often wondered if Smith could maintain his staggering numbers, but the right-hander’s stunning showing on his comeback indicates that he is not slowing down any time soon.

His career average of nearly 63 is the highest by any batsman (minimum 5,000 runs) since the retirement of the great Don Bradman and shows the kind of level that he is operating on.

Even though the likes of Kohli and Williamson are on their way to achieving greatness, Smith is eclipsing them with some ease in what has been an extraordinary Test career to date.

Wells Fargo reports first quarterly loss in more than a decade.

0

Wells Fargo on Tuesday reported its first quarterly loss since 2008, losing $2.4 billion as the pandemic’s economic shocks ravaged nearly every line of its business.

In a sign of more trouble ahead, the bank added $8.4 billion to its reserve for loan losses, more than twice what it set aside last quarter. It said it would, for the first time since the Great Recession, cut its dividend this quarter, dropping its payments to investors to 10 cents a share, down from the 51 cents it has paid for the last few quarters.

Charles W. Scharf, the bank’s chief executive, said he was “extremely disappointed” with the bank’s performance.

“While the negative impact of the pandemic is unprecedented and many of our business drivers were negatively impacted, our franchise should perform better,” he said in a statement. “We will make changes to improve our performance regardless of the operating environment.”

The bank’s revenue for its second quarter, which ended June 30, dropped to $17.8 billion, down nearly 18 percent from a year ago. Last year, it earned $6.2 billion during the quarter.

Wells Fargo is bracing for coming losses on its commercial loans, especially in real estate, where it set aside $6.4 billion. Consumer loans, especially mortgages, are also flashing warning lights; the bank added $2 billion to cover anticipated losses there.

U.S. Carries Out The 1st Federal Execution In Nearly 2 Decades

0

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — The U.S. government on Tuesday carried out the first federal execution in almost two decades, putting to death a man who killed an Arkansas family in a 1990s in a plot to build a whites-only nation in the Pacific Northwest. The execution came over the objection of the victims’ family.

Daniel Lewis Lee, 47, of Yukon, Oklahoma, died by lethal injection at the federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana.

“I didn’t do it,” Lee said just before he was executed. “I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life, but I’m not a murderer. … You’re killing an innocent man.”

The decision to move forward with the execution ― the first by the Bureau of Prisons since 2003 ― drew scrutiny from civil rights groups and the relatives of Lee’s victims, who had sued to try to halt it, citing concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.

Critics argued that the government was creating an unnecessary and manufactured urgency for political gain.

“The government has been trying to plow forward with these executions despite many unanswered questions about the legality of its new execution protocol,” said Shawn Nolan, one of the attorneys for the men facing federal execution.

The developments are likely to add a new front to the national conversation about criminal justice reform in the lead-up to the 2020 elections.

The execution of Lee, who was pronounced dead at 8:07 a.m. EDT, went off after a series of legal volleys that ended when the Supreme Court stepped in early Tuesday in a 5-4 ruling and allowed it to move forward.

The entrance to the federal prison in Terre Haute, Ind., is shown Monday, July 13, 2020. Daniel Lewis Lee, a convicted killer, was executed there Tuesday. He was convicted in Arkansas of the 1996 killings of gun dealer William Mueller, his wife, Nancy, and her 8-year-old daughter, Sarah Powell. (AP Photo/Michael Conroy)

Attorney General William Barr has said the Justice Department has a duty to carry out the sentences imposed by the courts, including the death penalty, and to bring a sense of closure to the victims and those in the communities where the killings happened.

But relatives of those killed by Lee in 1996 strongly opposed that idea and long argued that Lee deserved a sentence of life in prison. They wanted to be present to counter any contention that the execution was being done on their behalf.

“For us it is a matter of being there and saying, `This is not being done in our name; we do not want this,’” relative Monica Veillette said.

They noted that Lee’s co-defendant and the reputed ringleader, Chevie Kehoe, received a life sentence.

Kehoe, of Colville, Washington, recruited Lee in 1995 to join his white supremacist orgaization, known as the Aryan Peoples’ Republic. Two years later, they were arrested for the killings of gun dealer William Mueller, his wife, Nancy, and her 8-year-old daughter, Sarah Powell, in Tilly, Arkansas, about 75 miles (120 kilometers) northwest of Little Rock.

At their 1999 trial, prosecutors said Kehoe and Lee stole guns and $50,000 in cash from the Muellers as part of their plan to establish a whites-only nation.

Prosecutors said Lee and Kehoe incapacitated the Muellers and questioned Sarah about where they could find money and ammunition. Then, they used stun guns on the victims, sealed trash bags with duct tape on their heads to suffocate them, taped rocks to their bodies and dumped them in a nearby bayou.

A U.S. District Court judge put a hold on Lee’s execution on Monday, over concerns from death row inmates on how executions were to be carried out, and an appeals court upheld it, but the high court overturned it. That delay came after an appeals court on Sunday overturned a hold that had been put in place last week after the victims’ relatives argued they would be put at high risk for the coronavirus if they had to travel to attend the execution.

Two other federal executions are scheduled for later this week, though one is on hold in a separate legal claim.

There have been two state executions in the U.S. since the pandemic forced shutdowns nationwide in mid-March — one in Texas and one in Missouri, according to the Death Penalty Information Center. Alabama carried out one in early March.

Executions on the federal level have been rare, and the government has put to death only three defendants since restoring the federal death penalty in 1988 — most recently in 2003, when Louis Jones was executed for the 1995 kidnapping, rape and murder of a young female soldier.

Though there hadn’t been a federal execution since 2003, the Justice Department has continued to approve death penalty prosecutions and federal courts have sentenced defendants to death.

In 2014, following a botched state execution in Oklahoma, President Barack Obama directed the Justice Department to conduct a broad review of capital punishment and issues surrounding lethal injection drugs.

The attorney general said last July that the Obama-era review had been completed, clearing the way for executions to resume. He approved a new procedure for lethal injections that replaces the three-drug combination previously used in federal executions with one drug, pentobarbital. This is similar to the procedure used in several states, including Georgia, Missouri and Texas, but not all.

Numbers of state executions have fallen steadily since the last federal execution, according to data compiled by the Death Penalty Information Center. States put to death 59 people in 2004 and 22 in 2019, nine of which were in Texas.

#Huawei should not be part of Britain’s 5G network, rules national security council

0

Huawei components are to be blocked from Britain’s 5G network from 31 December this year. It’s a major policy u-turn by the government which had already given the Chinese tech titan the green light to help build the infrastructure.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden told the House of Commons the decision had been made after America forced Huawei to buy its micro-chips elsewhere.

Before sanctions, Huawei was using US-made parts.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been put under relentless pressure by Washington to drop Huawei from the UK’s 5G plans.

He also faces a backlash – and a possible lost vote in the House – after more than 50 Tory backbenchers railed against using Huawei.

President Donald Trump believes Huawei uses its tech knowledge to spy on people and countries.

Huawei has always denied the allegation.

A Huawei Spokesperson:

“This disappointing decision is bad news for anyone in the UK with a mobile phone. It threatens to move Britain into the digital slow lane, push up bills and deepen the digital divide. Instead of ‘levelling up’ the government is levelling down and we urge them to reconsider. We remain confident that the new US restrictions would not have affected the resilience or security of the products we supply to the UK.

Regrettably our future in the UK has become politicized, this is about US trade policy and not security. Over the past 20 years, Huawei has focused on building a better connected UK. As a responsible business, we will continue to support our customers as we have always done.

We will conduct a detailed review of what today’s announcement means for our business here and will work with the UK government to explain how we can continue to contribute to a better connected Britain.”

Today’s decision could cost Britain £2 billion and put it years behind its plans to introduce fast broadband for the country.

In his general election manifesto, Johnson promised super-fast broadband for all.

NA pledges political support for Kashmiri freedom struggle

0

ISLAMABAD  – The National Assembly on Monday saw an eventful day, as the MNAs from both sides passed a resolution on Kashmir martyrs’ day, conducted a debate on agriculture reforms and also briefly traded barbs against each other on different matters.

Although the house witnessed thin presence throughout the day, the opposition members, unlike before, refrained from disrupting the proceedings by pointing out the lack of required quorum.  The MNAs from both sides of the aisle unanimously passed two important resolutions. In the first resolution, which was with reference to Kashmir martyrs’ day, the lawmakers from both sides condemned ongoing Indian oppression against the people of Occupied Kashmir.

The resolution, moved by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan, expressed the resolve to extend diplomatic and political support to the just freedom struggle of Kashmiris. The House called upon the United Nations and the international community to play their role to stop bloodshed and oppression in Kashmir by the Indian forces.

The MNAs also unanimously passed a resolution teaching the Quran with Urdu translation. The resolution, moved by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan, recommended the present government to take measures for teaching of Quran with Urdu translation in all the universities and institutions of higher education affiliated with the federal government. This step would enable students to have a better understanding of Quranic education, according to the resolution.

The house saw a brief verbal brawl between lawmakers from treasury and opposition benches, which was later controlled by the chair.

PPP-P’s Abdul Qadir Patel, on a point of order, came down hard on the government for allegedly taking improper measures for the development of the country. “Should I stop exposing the ineligibility and weakness of this government…Now even Ethiopia has put Pakistan on watch list,” he said while passing remarks against the Prime Minister.

On this, the treasury benches members asked the chair to stop him. The speaker switched off the mic of Abdul Qadir Patel when he refused to stop.

The house saw a match of sloganeering between the government and the opposition members. As, the members from opposition benches raised slogans of ‘Qadir –Qadir’ and the treasury benches members in return started shouting ‘Qatil-Qatil’. The chair intervened and cooled down the situation by starting another agenda item.

With the outset of the proceedings, Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari informed that her ministry had started taking notice on caricatures in social media against minorities. “One person identified hails from Faisalabad. More work on it is underway,” said the minister, commenting that no one would be allowed to insult religions of others. She was responding to the concerns raised by opposition in the previous session about campaign against minorities on social media. PTI’s MNA Ali Nawaz, on a call-attention notice, drew attention of ruling party towards closure of OPD. “OPD’s closure can lead to multiplying problems of patients,” he said.

However, he was unable to convince the government to immediately open the OPDs. Parliamentary Secretary Nosheen Hamid informed that these OPDs were closed on the recommendation of the World Health Organization (WHO). “OPDs would start functioning once we received a signal from the NCOC,” she said.

Federal Minister for National Food Security Syed Fakhar Imam said that there was a need for funds and use of modern technology for the progress of the agriculture sector. “We have to take practical steps to improve the agriculture sector of the country, as fake measures would not work,” he said, mentioning that there was a need to work for the medicine of livestock. He said, “Efforts are being made for the approval of the Kisan package Economic coordination Committee (ECC),” he said.

PTI’s senior member further said that the use of quality seed with 80 percent germination capacity could enhance production of cotton bales from nine to fourteen billion in coming years.

PML-N’s Ali Gohar criticized the policies of the incumbent government especially in the agriculture sector. He said the government had only been obliging sugar mills.

Nawab Sher from PTI criticized the step to import wheat from outside the country.

“Currently old seed is being used, which is not good for the agriculture sector,” he said.  A member from opposition benches Ayesha Ghous Bux Pasha, taking part in the debate, asked the reasons behind allowing Afghan transit trade through Wagah border.

“On what conditions was this concession given to India? Will it be loyalty with the people of Kashmir,” she asked from treasury benches. She said that there was a need to specify funds for the research of seeds. Another member from opposition benches Rao Ajmal said that Punjab Seed Corporation had not been operating for the last fifteen years. He said that there was no proper research in cotton. “Situation of wheat might be unsatisfactory next year,” he feared.

PTI’s MNA Raja Riaz pointed out absence of ministry officials in the galleries of the house. “There is a need to suspend the house due to this apathetic attitude of bureaucracy,” he said, commenting that there was a need for building dams in the country to avoid water shortage in future. He said India has constructed over 50 dams in the country to avoid water scarcity in future.

Minister for Power Division Umar Ayub, responding to a call-attention notice over electricity transmission issue in the former FATA area, said that Rs5 billion had been allocated for amelioration of electricity system in the area.

MNA Abdul Shakoor said that the infrastructure was badly damaged due to operation in the South Waziristan area.

Stocks end the day with a loss after erasing early gains.

0

Monday proved to be another turbulent day for Wall Street, with stocks reversing an early gain that had briefly lifted the S&P 500 back into positive territory for the year.

The index was nearly 1 percent lower by the end of the day, after earlier having climbed more than 1.5 percent. The unsteady trading came as the number of coronavirus cases continued to rise, and investors also had the coming earnings season to consider.

Many companies, rocked by uncertainties caused by the spread of the coronavirus, have stopped giving guidance on profit projections through the year, so traders will be looking especially closely at the quarterly numbers as they are reported.

On Monday, Pepsico reported better than expected results, in part because of a jump in sales of snack foods. On Tuesday, JPMorgan, Citigroup and Wells Fargo will all report their results, and a range of other companies from Netflix to Delta Air Lines will also provide updates this week.

Stocks have climbed recently despite the unrelenting spread of the coronavirus in many parts of the world, but the market has also proven itself susceptible to a sudden downdraft if sentiment shifts and investors choose to focus on the risks to the economy or profits — something that could happen if corporate results come in far weaker than expected.

Adding to the market’s jitters on Monday was the news that Gov. Gavin Newsom of California announced one of the most sweeping rollbacks of any state’s reopening plans, saying that he would move to close indoor operations statewide for restaurants, wineries, movie theaters, zoos and card rooms, and that bars would be force to close all operations.

Florida on Sunday reported more than 15,000 new cases, the highest single-day total by any state since the start of the pandemic.

The economic crisis is prompting a growing coalition in the United States — including Democrats and Republicans, labor and business — to push for a new training effort to upgrade the skills of American workers, creating what one proponent called “a Marshall Plan for ourselves.”

Netanyahu’s annexation plan turning into fiasco

Jul 14, 2020

“Right now, I put the chances of Israeli annexation of any part of the West Bank at low to nonexistent,” a top Israeli security official told Al-Monitor on condition of anonymity. “There are too many conditions and circumstances that have to occur and ripen before that can happen.”

The first condition is a green light from Washington, which is currently nowhere in sight. US President Donald Trump appears to have lost interest in the issue he so enthusiastically promoted in January, although he has not said the final word. “In a few weeks, Trump might be persuaded that what he needs in order to erode the Democrats’ lead is more support of evangelical voters, and then he might suddenly restart the whole event,” said the top Israeli official. “Right now, we don’t think that [restarting annexation move] will happen.”

However, annexation does not depend solely on Trump. Even if the US president renews the green light for the move that he gave as part of his plan for Israeli-Palestinian peace, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces a host of other obstacles to realization of his dream and hoped-for legacy. Some of them are homemade.

“The coronavirus crisis has completely reshuffled the deck,” a senior Israeli diplomatic source told Al-Monitor on condition of anonymity. “Public interest in annexation — which was low to begin with — has waned further and no one can be bothered with it right now. People are focused on trying to make a living, avoiding economic collapse. Rarely have Israelis been so disinterested in other things and focused totally on the economy, and Netanyahu knows it.”

Annexation would also entail economic outlays at a time of skyrocketing budget deficits that show no sign of leveling off. However, the overriding consideration — as is usually the case with Netanyahu — has to do with his political standing. If he decides to forge ahead with new elections in the coming weeks, he might be persuaded that annexation would energize his base among the settlers and ideological political right and stem his continued bleeding in recent polls. Should that scenario pan out, he would take time off from dealing with the coronavirus crisis and renew his annexation push.

In addition to the previous weighty considerations, Netanyahu must keep in mind the security threats emerging from his annexation plan. The heads of two security agencies — Israel Defense Forces Chief Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi and Shin Bet Director Nadav Argaman — have presented him with strategic warnings. While neither argued that annexation would prompt a third Palestinian uprising (intifada) against Israel, both provided intelligence assessments indicating high probability of violence on the Gaza front or in the West Bank, or both.

“Even a local eruption of violence in the current situation could set off a chain reaction culminating in yet another round of high intensity fighting and a new intifada,” a senior Israeli security source told Al-Monitor on condition of anonymity. “Netanyahu knows this and understands that the last thing he needs now — with Israel collapsing into an unprecedented budgetary hole — is to call up army reserves and deal with an intifada.”

The probability of such a conflagration between Israel and the Palestinians also depends on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. In a bid to head off annexation, Abbas declared in May a complete cut-off from Israel, and for a change, he went through with it. As of now, there are no official contacts between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA), the security coordination between the sides has been all but suspended save some low-level contacts, and the Palestinians are refusing to accept the tax and customs revenues that Israel collects for them. As a result, the PA is having a hard time paying salaries of its tens of thousands of employees. The PA’s coronavirus cooperation with Israel has also been frozen, even as a renewed outbreak of the disease is sweeping the Palestinian territories.

A senior military source told Al-Monitor on condition of anonymity, “Given this situation, Abbas could lose control of the rank and file, undermining his ability to regulate anti-annexation protests should Israel go ahead with the move.” Pay for the PA’s security forces has been cut in half in light of the budgetary shortfall, while the power of the Tanzim, the armed wing of the Fatah movement, keeps growing. “In principle, Abbas is not interested in an intifada and does not really want to hand Israel the keys to the PA,” the official said, referring to repeated threats by Abbas to step back and let Israel run the affairs of over 2 million Palestinian residents. “But because he is growing weaker, the public protest could be turned against him and he could find himself facing a wave of violence, which he will be unable to control or turn around.”

Given this current state of affairs, with the absence of an American green light for annexation, the economy galloping toward an unprecedented recession, unemployment that has surged almost overnight to some 20%, a wave of bankruptcies and business closures, and an exponential plunge in Netanyahu’s popularity, the prime minister is unlikely to undertake any kind of annexation. The warnings of violence, ongoing opposition by the Blue and White partner in Netanyahu’s government, and the cost Israel could be forced to pay in terms of its ties with Europe and with moderate official and unofficial Arab allies all argue against the likelihood of such a controversial measure.

All these considerations lead to one conclusion: Trump’s “deal of the century,” which includes approval for Israeli annexation of up to 30% of the West Bank, could end up being “the fiasco of the century,” born in sin and dying in agony shortly after coming into this world. The good news for Netanyahu is that the entire non-event, which generated resonating headlines for many months and engaged the public agenda, has been pushed to the outer reaches of the margins given the far more pressing problems he faces, chief among them the health and economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. He now has to decide whether to escalate tensions further over the budget with his government partner, the Blue and White party, and use the failure to reach agreement on the issue as an excuse to dismantle the partnership and call new elections, even as the once-flourishing economy disintegrates into chaos on primetime TV. As always with Netanyahu, these assessments all come with the warning that it is too soon to bury the greatest magician of Israeli politics ever, but it is also not a good idea to step into his shoes.
