Sonam Kapoor misses being on the sets, shares photo from ‘Khoobsurat’ shooting days

Ever since the coronavirus has spread its wings in India, the shooting of various entertainment products such as television shows, movies, web series has been put to halt. Thanks to social media, our favourite celebrities are keeping a touch with their fans by sharing throwback photos, daily updates of quarantine activities, etc. One amongst those is actress Sonam Kapoor who has kept everyone glued to her Instagram handle. In her latest social media post, she opened up about how she is missing being on the sets of films. Not only this, but Sonam also shared a still from her film Khoobsurat in which she played the role of Mili.

The photo which was shared on Instagram showed Sonam was seen wearing a printed white shirt and blue sweater. She was seen holding a sheet of paper in her hands and it seems as if she was rehearsing her lines. The caption read, “Can’t wait to be rehearsing lines, acting and being on set again.. miss it so damn much. This still is from ‘Khoobsurat’. I’ve never felt as joyful playing a character. Mili I love you. @ghoshshashanka @rheakapoor @juhic3 @fawadkhan81 @disneyfilmsindia.”

Have a look at her post here:

Sonam had shared a condolence message for Sushant Singh Rajput and his family, and followed it up with a tweet that read: “Blaming a girlfriend, ex girlfriend, family, colleagues for someone’s death is ignorant and f****ng mean spirited.”

She later started facing heavy trolling on social media after which she penned an appreciation post for husband Anand Ahuja, thanking him for “being extra kind and loving” when she needed the most.  “An appreciation post for my husband. Thank you for being extra kind and loving today. I really needed it. Love you so much,” Sonam wrote on Instagram.

On the professional front, Sonam was last seen in Abhishek Sharma’s directorial The Zoya Factor which also featured South Indian star Dulquer Salmaan. The movie however could not do well at the box office.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s father questioned by police, says he wasn’t aware of the actor’s depression : Bollywood News – Bollywood Hungama

Sushant Singh Rajput’s sudden demise is a loss many still can’t cope with. On Sunday morning, the actor was found dead at his Mumbai residence, and allegedly killed himself by suicide. His family members, including father KK Singh, traveled to Mumbai from Patna for the actor’s funeral.

As part of the investigation, the Mumbai police carried out a number of rounds of questioning various people, and also spoke to Sushant’s father. Reportedly, in his statement, Singh stated that he was unaware of his son suffering from depression, and while the actor would feel low sometimes, the family did not know that he was depressed. As per reports, Singh also did not mention anyone he had any suspicion on.

The police is believed to be getting in touch with the late actor’s friends, two assistants and a few other people soon. Sushant’s former girlfriend Ankita Lokhande, who earlier visited Sushant’s house after the demise, will also be questioned by the police.

Salman Khan’s family takes legal action against ‘Dabangg’ director after his serious allegations

Salman Khan’s family takes legal action against filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap after his serious allegations

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s family has taken legal action against filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap, who had accused the Dabangg actor and his family of sabotaging his career.

The Bharat actor’s brother Arbaaz Khan confirmed that the family has taken legal action against Abhinav Kashyap.

He further said that they parted ways with the filmmaker professionally and they had no contact with him since they were shooting Dabangg 2.

Earlier, Dabangg director Kashyap turned to Facebook to pen a lengthy note on Sushant’s apparent suicide and wrote, “The death of Sushant Singh Rajput brings under scanner the role YRF talent Management Agency might have played in pushing him towards his suicide but that is for the authorities to investigate. These people don’t make careers. They ruin your career and life. Having suffered personally for a decade, I can confidently say every Talent Manager and all Talent Management Agencies of Bollywood are a potential death Trap for Artists. They are all basically white collared [expletive] and everyone is involved. They all have an unspoken code of conduct they adhere to.

“My experience is no different. I have experienced exploitation and bullying first hand Arbaaz Khan on Dabangg and ever since.

“The reason I moved out of making Dabangg 2 ten years ago is because Arbaaz Khan in collusion with Sohail Khan and family was trying to take control of my career by bullying me. Arbaaz Khan sabotaged my second project with Shree Ashtavinayak Films that I was signed up with by personally calling their head Mr. Raj Mehta and threatening him with dire consequences if they made a film with me. I had to return the signing money to Shree Ashtavinayak films and moved to Viacom Pictures.

“They did the same thing. Only this time the sabotager was Sohail Khan and he intimidated the then Viacom CEO Vikram Malhotra. Mr. Salman Khan and family sabotaged the release of the film and got their PROs to run a sustained negative smear campaign against me and my film BESHARAM before release.

“They erred and sent some of these threats as texts, sent to me as sms from several numbers. Armed with evidence, I went to the police in 2017 to file an FIR which they refused to register but registered a non-cognizable complaint. My complaint remains open to date and I still have all the evidence.

“I know who my enemies are. Let it be known that they are Salim Khan, Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan. There are many other small fry’s but Salman Khan family is the head of this venomous serpant. They use a clever mix of their ill-gotten money, political clout and connections with the underworld to intimidate anyone and everyone. Unfortunately truth is on my side and I am not going to give up like Sushant Singh Rajput. I refuse to cow down and will fight on till I see the end of either them or me. Enough tolerance. Its time to fight back. So this is not a threat, it’s an open challenge,” Kashyap said.

There will be no foreign training of bureaucrats during the ongoing financial year considering the safety and austerity measures being taken by the government due to coronavirus pandemic, the Personnel Ministry has said.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), cadre controlling authorities (ministries concerned) and central training institutes conduct foreign training or have international component as part of the overall training programme.

“Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and in view of the safety measures and financial austerity, all cadre controlling authorities and central training institutes are informed that no foreign training shall be conducted during the current financial year viz. 2020-2021,” it said in a recent order.

“However, under exceptional circumstances, if it is felt necessary to conduct any foreign training, prior approval of DoPT must be obtained,” the order said.

A total of Rs 238.45 crore was allocated to the Personnel Ministry for the current financial year for domestic and foreign training of bureaucrats and augmenting necessary infrastructure, according to the 2020-21 budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in February.

Of these, Rs 83.45 crore was earmarked for the ministry to meet establishment-related expenditure of the Delhi-based Institute of Secretariat Training and Management (ISTM), Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie and training division of the DoPT.

Both the ISTM and the LBSNAA conduct several training programmes for Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers and all other levels of secretarial functionaries with exposure to rules, regulations and aptitude.

A total of Rs 155 crore was allocated for the ongoing fiscal for a separate component “training schemes”. It includes upgradation of the LBSNAA to a centre of excellence and augmentation of training facilities at ISTM.

Meet Leo, the adorable ‘miracle’ bunny born without ears

0

Leo the bunny was born without ears (SWNS)

This is Leo, an adorably cute little rabbit that was born without any ears.

Possibly because of a genetic defect, little Leo was the only one of eight siblings to enter the world without trademark floppy ears.

Owner Kylie Clarke, 31, was worried he wouldn’t survive or be able to hear but she said his shortage of ears hasn’t affected him at all.

And while she’s going to give away the rest of the bunnies, she’s decided to keep Leo as a pet.

Kylie, from Belfast, Northern Ireland, said: ‘I’ve never seen anything like it before.

‘She’s just beautiful. We called her Leo because she just looks like a wee mini lion.

‘Once Leo was born I knew something wasn’t right, she didn’t look right. Then as she got older you could see the she’s been born with completely no ears’ said Clarke

‘I was really scared at the start at the start, but when I stared doing a bit more research I realised its so so rare to happen but it can happen.

‘I have four kids, two girls and two boys, they just think its great. They think its a miracle, if anything it gets more attention than the other rabbits’

Leo was born in a litter of eight – the only one without ears (SWNS)

‘As far as I’ve researched there’s no spot on explanation really. She’s otherwise happy and healthy!’

The homemaker and mum-of-four has been a professional rabbit breeder for more than a year.

Leo, a mixed breed, was born six weeks ago. He’s due to have a vet check this week, but seems to be perfectly healthy.

‘Public Has Right to Know…’: Veteran Scientist Madhavan Nair Warns Against Structural Changes in ISRO

0

Veteran space scientist G Madhavan Nair has warned against structural changes in the ISRO, as he sought to draw similarities between the space agency and Elon Musk’s SpaceX in terms of having a unified command for delivering efficient performance.

The former Chairman of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) said some of the recent media reports project an alarming picture about Indian space programme on its ineffectiveness to make industrial participation and an idea of possible restructuring to bring about more expansion.

“The public has the right to know the factual situation considering the evolution and growth so far,” he insisted.

ISRO, Nair said, is the best performing government organisation which has not only mastered most sophisticated space technologies totally indigenously, but also provided space missions in a timely manner meeting common mans requirements as well as security needs.

It’s the far sighted approach which has enabled India to get a front seat among the global space players, he said.

ISRO is a unique organisation not only doing high tech R&D but also applications for societal benefit like tele-education, tele-medicine, disaster management, applications for agriculture, fisheries and infrastructure development, he pointed out.

“India had undertaken planetary missions to the Moon and Mars as well, not leaving out Indian constellation for navigation satellites. All these were accomplished in a shoe-string budget.

India’s annual (space) budget is slightly above USD one billion compared to about USD three billion of China and about USD 25 billion of USA.”

The government recently said the private sector would be allowed to use ISRO’s facilities and assets and provided a level-playing field in satellites, launches and space-based services.

“Lot of hue and cry is made on industry participation,” said Nair, during whose tenure of six years as Chairman of ISRO and Secretary in the Department of Space 25 successful missions were accomplished, told PTI on Tuesday.

Right from SLV3, ISROs first satellite launch vehicle (more than four decades ago), onwards, industry had shared the production responsibility and today even the cryogenic engine is manufactured by industries.

“Nearly 60 per cent of ISRO’s budget is spent through industry. The fact that the space agency’s manpower is stable around 17,000 over the last two decades while the number of missions grew by a factor of 10 is a proof of effectiveness of industrial policy in space activities,” he underlined.

As a next step for enabling industry to take up full system realisation, the new entity NSIL (NewSpace India Limited) was formed nearly a year back and it is progressing well, Nair noted.

Satellite manufacturing, earth observation applications and navigation applications have got enough scope for industry participation and opportunity for start-ups whereas, large rockets are a difficult technology to master, having sensitive dual use applications and has to be closely guarded.

Even in the USA and other countries, secrecy and security norms are stringent in the launch vehicle sector.

Nair said the SpaceX is marvelled as a success story in private space launch vehicle development and it is really so as he recalled the history of the space programme in the US.

After space shuttle failure and retirement, the US space agency NASA was going rudderless on new vehicle development, he said, adding, its industrial partners came up with a USD five billion project to provide a new launcher for manned missions.

In fact this was the opportunity Musk captured taking personal initiative and with his own funds to develop a man-rated vehicle. He did that too extremely well over a 10 year period at one fifth the cost projected by NASA.

“If you study carefully, it is the mismanagement of NASA programmes which led to the success of a private player. It is interesting to note the similarities of Elon Musks SpaceX and ISRO.

Both have a unified system under single command and under a single roof design/production concept. Only very small items or parts available commercially are subcontracted.

This is exactly what ISRO has been following all these years. SpaceX claims that this is the single factor which led to cost cutting substantially compared to the NASA model,” Nair elaborated.

SpaceX, he said, had spent nearly USD 800 million as development cost and offering launch at about 11,000 USD per kg. In India, ISROs GSLV Mk3 (launch vehicle) is the same class and of course, without booster recovery.

“Still our development cost was around 300 million USD and payload delivery cost is around 5000 USD per kg, less than half of the US competitor. SpaceX had captured nearly one billion USD orders.

Can any Indian industry or start-ups make use of this opportunity to get at least a hundred million USD business for launch even after developing a launch vehicle? Instead of crying foul all the time, industry should take up such challenges as done by SpaceX,” Nair said.

ISRO is not behind anybody else in advanced technology.

In 2009, a Vision-2020 document was prepared by ISRO. It contained the development plan for two stages to orbit (TSTO), recoverable and reusable launchers (RLV), human space flight (HSP), semi cryogenic engines development, high bandwidth communication satellites, radar and high resolution multi spectral imagery, among others.

But the UPA2 had put off many of these activities, he alleged.

“It was after Modiji took over (as Prime Minister), ISRO’s plans were put back on track including approval of manned space mission. Now, ISRO is roaring ahead with full steam on the newly approved plans.”

“This is the time in which lots of statements are made about structural changes in ISRO.

Immediate question is, what for? All recognise that both the Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space have a unique structure of overall management by an empowered commission with full delegated powers.”

“The special feature of this system is that both the Commission and Department are headed by a carefully selected technocrat. This is the single reason that both these departments are performing most efficiently.

One can’t expect perfection in all respects. If there are specific deficiencies it has to be analysed and fixed rather than breaking up the top most performer based on false tall claims,” he said.

Nair said all the noises made by a few private players and start-ups (calling for structural changes in ISRO) were without understanding Indian and global scenario.

“Perhaps one wonders whether it is vested interests trying to de-motivate ISRO, which is putting up an exemplary performance.”

More than 600,000 lose work in UK as #COVID hits jobs market

More than 600,000 lose work in UK as #COVID hits jobs market

More than 600,000 lose work in UK as #COVID hits jobs marketThe number of people on British company payrolls fell by more than 600,000 in April and May as the coronavirus lockdown hit the labour market, and vacancies plunged by the most on record, official data showed on Tuesday (16 June), write William Schomberg and David Milliken.

The jobless rate unexpectedly held at 3.9% over the three months to April – despite a record slump in overall economic output during that period – as firms turned to the government’s job retention scheme to keep employees on their books.

Economists polled by Reuters had mostly expected a rise in the unemployment rate to 4.7%.

“The furlough scheme continues to hold off the bulk of job losses, but unemployment is likely to surge in the months ahead,” Tej Parikh, chief economist at the Institute of Directors, said.

The furlough scheme is due to run until the end of October although employers have to make contributions to the cost of paying their temporarily laid-off workers from August.

Many companies have already announced permanent layoffs of workers. On Monday, building materials firm Travis Perkins said it would cut about 9% of its workforce, or 2,500 jobs. Airlines have shed more than 15,000 jobs in Britain.

Britain’s job market was strong before the coronavirus hit, and the ONS said many of those who lost their jobs in April were not actively looking for work and so counted as ‘inactive’ rather than unemployed.

In a more up-to-date sign of how the coronavirus lockdown is affecting the labour market, experimental figures, based on tax data, showed the number of people on company payrolls fell by 612,000 in April and May. In May alone, it was 163,000 lower than in April when the biggest job losses occurred.

That left the number of paid employees 2.1% lower than in March, the ONS said.

There was also a big drop in job vacancies which showed their largest quarterly fall since the ONS began measuring them in 2001, with a slide of 342,000 to 476,000.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, under pressure to ease the slump in the economy, has ordered a review of Britain’s two-metre social distancing rule which many employers say is stopping them from getting back up to speed.

Johnson and finance minister Rishi Sunak are also reportedly considering increasing a tax incentive for small firms to hire workers, and suspending social security payments by employers.

The ONS said the number of hours worked per week dropped by the biggest amount on record, falling to 959.9 million in the three months to April from 1.041 billion in the three months to March, reflecting the scale of the jobs furlough scheme which covers about 9 million jobs.

A measure of the number of people claiming Universal Credit, a benefit for people out of work or on low incomes, rose by a larger than expected 528,900 in May to 2.8 million, more than double the number in March.

The ONS has said the claimant count almost certainly overstates the rise in unemployment because it includes people who are in work but are entitled to support.

A fall in pay growth reflected how workers on the government’s job retention scheme are only entitled to receive 80% of their former pay, up to 2,500 pounds a month.

The ONS said workers’ total pay growth of 1.0% was the weakest since September 2014. Regular pay, excluding bonuses, grew by 1.7%, the weakest since January 2015.

Google’s new One Tap system will ease sign-ups and logins on Android

0

For the past couple of years, I’ve felt like the notion of registering for a service by filling in a form seems like an aging ritual. A lot of that hassle has been sorted by autofill systems, but you still have issues like remembering whether you signed up with your Google or Facebook account, or if you used a password, or if you even registered in the first place.

Google might have a way out, for those who are happy to use its solutions. The company has developed One Tap, a new system that lets you sign up on sites and in apps with a single touch on devices you’re logged into with a Google account. Developers will need to integrate this into their products so you can use it.

The idea is that not only will you be able to sign up quicker without having to fill out a form on Android, but you’ll also be prompted to sign back in with just a tap via the account you registered with. This way, you don’t need to remember passwords or even which alias you created your account with. It’ll all be presented in a uniform interface that you’ll recognize easily — across several third-party apps and services.

Of course, you can already sign up for apps using your Google account and avoid filling a form, but this is designed to be even more streamlined. Since you’re already logged in on your Android device, Google will just run with that instead of asking you to provide your Google account password a second time within the third-party app.

[Read more: Windows is coming to Chromebooks as Google partners with Parallels]

To ensure your information is secure, Google has developed a backend system called Block Store, which essentially allows said third-party services to generate a security token that’s tied to your account and use that for sign-ins instead of relying on credentials — negating worries about your password being stored in plain text someplace.

That should certainly make life a little easier for people who use a ton of apps (read: most of us), but it’s up to developers to implement these systems in their products. Lifehacker’s Brendan Hesse voiced a concern about the danger of tying several apps to your Google account, because an intruder who gains access to it could then log into said apps as well. But that’s not really very different from the current state of affairs for people who sign up via Google.

Ultimately, if there’s a more secure way to log into services and not have to remember passwords, I’m into it — even at the cost of tying myself more deeply into Google’s ecosystem, because I don’t see a realistic way around it just now.
