Atlanta officials fired two police officers and placed three on desk duty pending review over the use of excessive force as protestors took to the streets Saturday to express their anger over the death of George Floyd.
Sunday Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said she saw a video, which she called “disturbing,” of five officers pulling two college students out of a car in downtown Atlanta. Bottoms and police Chief Erika Shields made the announcement at a press conference after reviewing body-camera footage.
“We understand that our officers are working very long hours under an enormous amount of stress but we also understand that the use of excessive force is never acceptable,” Bottom said.
The video shows a group of police officers in riot gear and gas masks pulling a woman out of the passenger seat and a man from the driver’s seat. Neither appear to not be fighting the police. Officers tased the man and zip-tie handcuffs on the woman on the ground
Shields said it was “shocking” to watch the officers “manhandling” the students in their car.
“These folks are going out everyday, they are getting pelted with rocks, knives thrown at them, ongoing gun shots, it really is an unpleasant space to be in. But that does not relieve us of our responsibilities. And we have a responsibility, when we handle any incident, not to escalate the incident and not to cause further harm or injury,” Shields said.
Bottoms said the woman was released without charges. The man was also released, and Bottoms has ordered to drop the charges against him. She did not specify what charges he faced.
TV station WTTG reports the two students were in the downtown area for the second night of protests in the aftermath of the death of Floyd, an unarmed black man whodied after a white Minneapolis police officer kneeled on his neck for nearly eight minutes. Â
The two are students of the historically black colleges Spelman College and Morehouse College. Bottoms said she spoke with leaders from both colleges, and the student’s representatives.
Shields offered an apology and acknowledged that the officer’s behavior was unacceptable.
“Sometimes the best thing, the only thing you can do as a police chief is come in and clean up the mess that’s before you,†Shields said.
Local reporters who witnessed the incidentsaid police flattened the car’s tires and broke the glass on the car.
The protest in Atlanta is one of many nationwide that started peacefully before turning violent. In Brooklyn, two New York Police Department cars drove into a crowd of protesters who pushed a barricade against one of them and pelted it with objects. Police officers in Minneapolis sprayed demonstrators with chemical irritant during protests. In Detroit a 21-year-old was killed as a car drove by protestors and sprayed shots.

Showtime’s Billions takes place in a reality all its own. Technically that’s true of pretty much every work of fiction, but it feels especially so for the show created by Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Andrew Ross Sorkin.
The whole series is a high-stakes pissing contest that’s dressed up like a prestige TV drama set in the world of New York finance. Really, though, Billions takes place in a different, even more heightened world—one where stock bros and members of the federal law enforcement are hyper-articulate and as fluent in sports and film references as they are in obscene insults.
Imagine a world where splashy cameos, extravagant dining and skullduggery are par for the course. Think of a place where people are constantly seduced by power, prone to operatic levels of pettiness and vulnerable to what the NBA’s Pat Riley has called “the Disease of More,” to throw in a Billions-esque shoutout. Picture a reality where Paul Giamatti is not only the Attorney General of New York, but also an out (and somewhat proud) member of the BDSM community. Consider the existence of a realm where John Malkovich is a Russian billionaire and speaks in the same thicker-than-whiteout-conditions accent that he had as Teddy KGB in the 1998 film Rounders—not a coincidence, since Koppelman and Levien wrote Rounders. Try to believe that Damian Lewis could somehow be from Yonkers. Once you’ve done all that, then you’ll have an idea of what goes on in the world of Billions.
And to celebrate the show’s compelling brand of absurdity, we’re keeping track of the most Billions-y things that happen on Billions this season. For highlights from the latest episode, brace yourselves and head below.
It looks like even Chuck Rhoades can’t believe how complicated the machinations get in this episode. Showtime/Jeff Neumann
Except Connerty doesn’t say a word when he appears onscreen. He simply walks into the visitation room after getting his handcuffs removed and flat-out decks Chuck in the face. Connerty then backs away, smirks and waits for the guards to come into the room, cuff him again and drag him back to his cell. It’s a very macho move—one that we are fully in support of. Who among us hasn’t wanted to take a swing at Chuck Rhoades at some point? And we’re willing to go on record here: Nobody this season is going to make better use of their screen time than Moore in this one scene. Hang tough, Connerty—we’ll be waiting outside the gates when you get out.
Frank Grillo Woos Wendy With Talk of Destruction
After this week’s episode, we now know that Frank Grillo’s Nico Tanner is really into two things: demolition, and Wendy Rhoades. And, lucky for him, he gets to combine these two interests in a scene midway through the hour. He takes Maggie Siff’s Wendy to a seemingly abandoned building that’s set to be demolished soon (he used to work on a demo crew, he explains, so he’s got a hookup for empty skyscrapers, apparently) and after some talk of entropy and destruction and trying to cling to what we think really matters, the two kiss, with the New York skyline glittering in the background.
And while we’re calling stuff—we’re predicting that Wendy and Tanner’s relationship becomes a sore spot for Axe later this season. That’ll lead to not only a rift between Axe and the artist that he’s hired on commission, but also to Axe and Wendy finally hooking up after all these years. You’ll see.
Chuck Sr. Is Officially in the Latter-Day-Vito-Corleone Phase of Life
Showtime hasn’t made shots of Chuck Sr. in this episode available to the press yet, so we’re running with this one of Chuck Jr. Look at that bruise from Connerty! Jeff Neumann/Showtime
Sunday’s episode manages a truly remarkable feat: It features what might be the most on-the-nose Godfather reference in all of Billions. (And this is just one week after Wendy pretty much sighed while invoking Lee Strasberg’s Hyman Roth and his iconic line reading of “bigger than U.S. Steel.”)
When the episode enters its final act, we see Chuck Sr. playing with his infant daughter in their extravagant apartment. They’re crawling around on all fours, toying with a stuffed giraffe—then he reaches for a bowl of oranges. A bowl of oranges! While playing with a young child! Virtually every single character on this show carries Godfather quotes and references around in their pockets, like so many nickels and dimes! How does he not know better? How did he not spot that bowl of oranges and then immediately toss it out the window, onto some passersby on Park Avenue? It’s beyond us.
Anyway, Chuck Sr. grabs an orange, puts it in his dang mouth and growls to entertain the kid, and whadda ya know? He starts to feel a little faint and falls over. Unlike Marlon Brando’s Vito Corleone, though, Chuck Sr. isn’t dead after his brush with the oranges. He’s taken to a hospital and told that he’s having renal failure, so he needs a new kidney. Problem is, considering his advanced age and intake of liquor and cigars, he’s not eligible for an organ donation. That means it’s gonna be up to Chuck to finagle something—or donate something—to save his father’s life in the next few episodes.
Axe Refuses to Let His Father Have Anything Nice
Does this look like a man who’s not going to make sure his enemies are left with nothing? No, it does not. Jeff Neumann/Showtime
As we’ve noted a few times in the past few weeks, family has loomed large over this season of Billions. Wags is trying to reconnect with his kids and wants to have a new one; Chuck has been neglecting his duties as a family man while his own father has been treasuring time with his newborn daughter; and now Axe is reckoning with memories of his father, who’s creeping back into the picture.
Axe is busy doing damage control from last week, because he skipped out on a promise to have dinner with the mother and son who currently live in his childhood home up in Yonkers. He doesn’t want word to get out, because that would obviously be bad PR and complicate things with the “Opportunity Zone” that he fought so hard for in the previous episode. And as he’s spending more time in Yonkers, Axe pays a visit to his mom, to ask for her help in keeping the broken dinner date a secret. More importantly, though, Axe finds out that his mom has recently seen his father. As far as we can recall, all we know about Axe’s dad is that he hasn’t been around for a long time and that he was abusive toward Axe’s mother. Axe is livid that she’s been in contact with the dirtbag, and that she gave him the Lexus that Axe bought for her as a gift.
So how does Axe handle all of this? Depends on your outlook! One might say he “goes overboard” by purchasing his childhood home to ensure that no one will ever live within its walls ever again. Or that he “overreaches” by also buying a brand new house in Scarsdale for the mother and son who were living in that run-down Yonkers house. Or that he “overdoes it” by spotting the Lexus that his estranged father is now driving around town and having it towed, crushed into a cube and dropped off back in its parking space, to send his dear ol’ dad a message. One could say that all of that is “a little much.”
Or, you could say that he reacts exactly how you’d think Bobby Axelrod would react.

As it speeds towards them, people can be seen leaping out of harm’s way before the truck comes to a stop.
Authorities have confirmed an investigation is underway to find out how the truck was able to get onto the bridge where the demonstrations were taking place today.
“Very disturbing actions by a truck driver on I-35W, inciting a crowd of peaceful demonstrators,” the Minnesota Department of Public Safety said in tweet.
“The truck driver was injured & taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is under arrest. It doesn’t appear any protesters were hit by the truck.

“We are working with our partners at [the Minnesota Department of Transportation] to determine how the semi got onto I-35W.”
His posts showed a picture of him wearing a mask and kneeling across from a black man and a child. Videos on his Instagram story show the presumptive Democratic nominee taking photos and chatting with other masked men.
“The only way to bear this pain is to turn all that anguish to purpose,†Biden added. “And as President, I will help lead this conversation — and more importantly, I will listen, just as I did today visiting the site of last night’s protests in Wilmington.â€
Demonstrations spread across the country following the death of 46-year-old George Floyd. He died while being knelt on by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who has since been charged with third-degree murder. The unrest comes as the coronavirus pandemic has killed more than 104,000 people in the U.S. and infected more than 1.7 million — which is also disproportionately affecting people of color.
Some weekend protests were overtaken by violence. Even as people peacefully chanted and knelt in solidarity, others set fires, looted buildings and engaged in physical altercations. Police officers tear-gassed and fired non-fatal rubber bullets at protesters and journalists. Curfews have been ordered in a number of places, including Washington, D.C.
In a separate statement released earlier Sunday, Biden warned against “needless destruction,†though protesting is “right and necessary.â€
“The act of protesting should never be allowed to overshadow the reason we protest,†Biden wrote. “It should not drive people away from the just cause that protest is meant to advance.â€
Wilmington was one of the cities that saw peaceful protests take a turn Saturday when people began looting businesses. According to WDEL.COM, one of the organizers of the protests, Hyland Henry, told Delaware Gov. John Carney that looting and vandalism were not what the organizers wanted. “That’s not our enemy; that’s not our battle,” Henry said.
On Sunday evening, a crowd of protesters gathered again in Wilmington, chanting “George Floyd,†“no justice, no peace,†and “can’t breathe,†WECT TV6 reported. Police used inert gas after people refused to listen to orders to clear streets and intersections.
President Donald Trump has blamed far-left radicals and antifa for the violence. He went as far to tweet Sunday that he was “designating ANTIFA as a Terrorist Organization,” though it’s not clear if antifa is an organization in the usual sense of the word or if Trump has the legal authority to do this.
Trump condemned Floyd’s death and — like Biden — has spoken to Floyd’s family. But the president has been accused of exacerbating racial tensions and stoking violence in his tweets. Trump has labeled protesters as “thugs,†said “vicious dogs, and most ominous weapons†were ready to greet protesters if they scaled the White House fence, and blamed Democratic leaders and “Sleepy Joe.â€
Biden has seen strong support among older black voters, though a few of his gaffes (like saying “if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black”) have drawn criticism.
A Washington Post-ABC News poll released Sunday found Biden led Trump by 10 points, 53 percent to 43 percent among voters nationally. That margin was a virtual dead heat two months ago, according to the Post.
Still, Biden is viewed less favorably overall compared to his standing last fall. And Trump’s supporters are more enthusiastic and committed to voting for him in November than people backing Biden are, the poll found.
Samsung has been a key player since the inception of Chrome OS, and they still make outstanding Chromebooks. Picking a brand is only the first decision when finding the right computer, though. Now you need to figure out which is the best Samsung Chromebook for your specific needs and budget. Today we’re here to help you make that decision.
Editor’s note: This best Samsung Chromebook guide will be regularly updated as new devices launch and others are phased out.
What is a Chromebook?
Chromebooks are computers that run Google’s Chrome OS operating system. This is a very simple web-based operating system made for those who use their computers mostly for browsing. It uses the Chrome browser as its backbone, adapting its abilities to a desktop-like user interface that makes it feel like a traditional, desktop PC.
Chrome OS has advanced its offline capabilities since its inception. They became especially more capable when Google gave Chrome OS support for Android applications, giving users access to a huge library of applications, services, and offline features. For an in-depth explanation of Chrome OS, its pros, and its cons, check the link below.
Samsung is a key player in the Android and Chrome OS markets, making it one of the most important Google partners. These companies have been working hard together and it shows. Samsung’s Chrome OS offerings come in many flavors. From super high-end laptops to affordable value devices, Samsung products are known for their quality.
We can confidently say the best Samsung Chromebooks are Google’s biggest competitors, and the best Google Chromebooks are amazing.
1. Samsung Galaxy Chromebook: The best Samsung Chromebook for high-end needs
The 2020 Samsung Galaxy Chromebook is Samsung’s most premium Chrome OS offering to date. The device has a gorgeous design (especially in the Fiesta Red variant), and features a 4K AMOLED panel with a 16:9 ratio. It even comes with Ambient EQ technology to automatically adjust brightness and color temperature levels based on ambient light. Other features include a built-in stylus, Wi-Fi 6 support, dual-cameras, and a 10th generation Intel processor.
While you might not think of Chrome OS as the perfect platform for digital artists, Samsung is also including specialized software designed to make the most out of the stylus. While this probably won’t cut it for more professional types, for amateurs it’s a great option.
Basically, the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook feels a lot like a Pixelbook rival, and it has a high price to match.
2. Samsung Chromebook Plus V2: The best Samsung Chromebook for portability
Technically, most Chromebooks are very portable, but this one is special in that it comes with 4G LTE connectivity that would be perfect for road warriors, frequent travelers, and anyone commonly on-the-go.
Specs are modest, including an Intel Celeron processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a 12.2-inch 1920 x 1200 display. With current prices north of the $500 mark, you are mostly paying for its data capabilities. That’s a very important factor to some of you, though. And it also comes with an S Pen, further improving functionality.
3. Samsung Chromebook 4: The best budget option
The Samsung Chromebook 4 is the best option to get on a budget. It’s similar to the Samsung Chromebook Plus V2 in terms of specs, but it comes with a sleeker design and a much lower price point.
Packed inside you will find an Intel Celeron processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and an 11.6-inch display. You can also go for a 15.6-inch version if you want more screen real estate, but that one will cost more.

23:00 GMT (Sunday) – US sends 2 million doses of hydroxychloroquine to Brazil
The United States has delivered two million doses of the antimalarial medicine hydroxychloroquine to Brazil to fight COVID-19, the White House said, even though the drug has not been proven effective against the coronavirus.
“HCQ will be used as a prophylactic to help defend Brazil’s nurses, doctors, and healthcare professionals against the virus. It will also be used as a therapeutic to treat Brazilians who become infected,” a statement said in reference to the drug.
It said the US would also send 1,000 ventilators to Brazil, the epicentre of South America’s outbreak.
“We are also announcing a joint United States-Brazilian research effort that will include randomized controlled clinical trials,” it added.
Hydroxycholoroquine is used to treat malaria as well as the autoimmune disorders lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. The WHO recently suspended trials into the drug because of the risk of serious side effects.

A large truck was seen driving into a crowd of protesters on a bridge in Minneapolis at full speed, sending people running for safety, during protests on Sunday.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety called it “very disturbing actions by a truck driver on I-35W, inciting a crowd of peaceful demonstrators.”
The truck driver was injured and is under arrest, the department said. It doesn’t appear any protesters were hit by the truck, according to the department. The driver has been released from the hospital and is in custody, the governor said at a news conference.
The truck was swarmed and video from the scene showed someone on the hood as it moved.
Let our news meet your inbox. The news and stories that matters, delivered weekday mornings.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz called the incident “horrifying” and said the truck driver illegally entered the closed freeway. He was injured after being pulled from the vehicle, Walz said, and his motive was unknown.
Walz said officials don’t have any confirmed reports of injuries. Social media suggested some could have been transported privately, but the public safety commissioner said they are not aware of any injured protesters being at local hospitals.
Just before 6 p.m. a crowd of pedestrian protesters gathering on an Interstate 35 highway bridge, and witnesses said the driver began spraying some sort of substance out of the vehicle.
Minneapolis police spread out across the highway blocking all lanes of traffic with their vehicles and state police worked to clear the bridge of protesters.

Walz said that the incident could have been a tragedy with many people killed.
Minnesota Department of Public Safety Director John Harrington said there had been a crowd of around 5,000 to 6,000 protesters and they moved to the freeway.
The freeway was shut down to keep protesters safe, he said. The truck drove through at high speeds and was chased down by protesters and stopped. Harrington said at a news conference that he did not known how the driver was injured or whether he was attacked by some in the crowd.
From transportation camera footage, it appears the truck was on the freeway as it was being closed, Harrington said.
“But that does not in any way absolve the driver from driving through a crowd of people at speed,” Harrington said.

The incident is under investigation. The governor said he wants the truck driver charged to the fullest extent possible.
“I don’t know what his intent was,” Harrison said. “… But there’s just no way for me to see that as being anything other than one of the most dangerous things I have ever seen.”
Saudi Arabia has reopened its mosques after a two-month closure. Worshippers were required to take their own prayer mats and face masks and stand two metres apart. Worshippers were required to perform their ablution rite of washing their face, arms and legs before prayer, at home.

Spain’s prime minister Pedro Sanchez says the country needs 15 more days of lockdown until 21 June “to finish with the pandemic once and for allâ€, and he would ask parliament to approve a final two-week extension to the stay home rule.
“We have almost achieved what we set out to do,†Sanchez told a press conference, as he expressed his intense relief that the number of new cases in Spain, one of the nations hardest-hit by the virus, had fallen dramatically.

From 21 June a national state of emergency will end and with it the lockdown, allowing citizens to move freely in their regions. From 1 July, citizens will be able to move throughout the country.
Spain’s death toll rose by two on Sunday to 27,127, the health ministry said, while the number of infections rose by 96 overnight to 239,429.
Spain imposed a state of emergency on 14 March which involved a strict lockdown under which people could leave their homes only to buy food, seek medical care or for jobs where they could not work from home. Children were initially confined inside all day. Restrictions are being gradually eased.
Indian states on Sunday began identifying high-risk zones where coronavirus lockdowns should continue while the rest of country gears up to reopen in June.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has extended lockdown, that was due to end on 31 May, to 30 June, in so-called containment zones that continue to report a high number of infections.
Restaurants, malls and religious buildings will be permitted to reopen elsewhere from 8 June. India has reported 190,609 confirmed cases, with 5,408 deaths according to the Johns Hopkins tracker.

In Uttar Pradesh, the country’s most populous state, a health official said 1,111 containment zones has been identified, while authorities in the western Gujarat state said that more than 400,000 houses were marked as high-risk zones.
Officials in the western state of Maharastra said all markets, except malls and congested spaces, will be allowed to function in a staggered manner. West Bengal identified 285 containment zones in its capital, Kolkata.
In a radio address on Sunday, Modi warned people to remain vigilant.
“The fight against the coronavirus is intense, we cannot drop our guard,†he said.
Brazil has reported 16,409 new coronavirus cases taking the total of infected cases to 514,849. It keeps the country in second place in terms of infections, behind the US on 1.78 million cases. Brazil has moved into fourth in terms of deaths, with 29,314 fatalities, according to the health ministry.
President Bolsonaro has repeatedly dismissed the severity of the virus and continued to flout social distancing measures. On Sunday he road a horse to a rally calling for the supreme court to be shut down for investigating him.

Also on Sunday the White House said it would send two million doses of hydroxychloroquine and 1,000 ventilators to Brazil, despite warnings over the anti-malarial drug’s safety. The White House said in a joint statement with Brazil that the drug would be used as a preventative treatment for frontline healthcare workers in Brazil, despite its known dangers.
“It will also be used as a therapeutic to treat Brazilians who become infected,†the statement said.
The countries will also carry out a joint research effort, including “randomised controlled clinical trialsâ€.
The WHO’s director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in light of a paper published in the Lancet medical journal that showed people taking hydroxychloroquine were at higher risk of death and heart problems than those who were not, it would pause the hydroxychloroquine arm of its solidarity global clinical trial.
Hello and welcome to the Guardian’s live coverage of the coronavirus pandemic.
Brazil has passed 500,000 cases of coronavirus as the White House announced it was sending 2 million doses of hydroxychloroquine and 1,000 ventilators to the country. The move to send Brazil the anti-malarial drug comes despite medical warnings about the risks associated with it and just days after the WHO suspended testing it on Covid-19 patients due to health concerns. Mass protests in Brazil and in the US over the weekend have fuelled fears of a surge in cases.
We’ll be bringing you the latest virus developments but to kick off, here’s a summary of the top points so far
India’s lockdown, which was due to end on 31 May, has been extended until 30 June in a number of zones identified as ‘high-risk’ by individual states, while the rest of the country prepares to reopen.
Spain’s prime minister said on Sunday the country needed 15 more days of lockdown until June 21 “to finish with the pandemic once and for allâ€, and he would ask parliament to approve a final two-week extension to the stay home rule.
Saudi Arabia enforced strict measures when mosques reopened on Sunday, including face masks and personal prayer mats. It comes two months after communal prayers were abandoned due to virus fears.
In England, senior public health officials have made a last-minute plea for ministers to stop Monday’s easing of the lockdown, warning the country is unprepared to deal with any surge in infection.
More that 1,000 people have died from the coronavirus in Chile, the health ministry has reported, with 827 of the deaths occurring in May alone. The country has had 99,688 confirmed cases and 1,054 deaths.
South Africa has delayed Monday’s reopening of schools by a week, the Department of Basic Education has announced, saying that many are not ready to welcome back pupils.
Poverty in the occupied West Bank may double as Palestinians are hammered by the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic, the World Bank has warned.

Born in Saharanpur, India, Wajid Khan rose to fame with his brother Sajid Khan as they composed music for Salman Khan‘s film Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya and later also composed for Sonu Nigam’s album Deewana. They had recently composed all the songs for Salman Khan’s Dabangg 3 and Family of Thakurganj. This year has been tough on Bollywood as Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan Khan had both passed away in April, shocking the Bollywood fraternity.
